Business Plan or Life Plan?

When a business fails, lives get trashed and the family of the business owner is the primary victim. Employees, vendors and customers are also impacted.  Chaos prevails and uncertainty becomes the way of life. Hopes and dreams are demolished. When the business is owned by a Christian, there is collateral damage to the testimony of the Body of Christ. The emotional and relational costs usually exceed the financial loss.

Would a strong business plan have prevented the business from failing? Maybe.  Was the business plan the only plan or was there a God ordained life plan? Weavers teaches biblical life planning as the first step to biblical business planning. A successful, profitable Christian business is usually built on a workable business plan, however before a business owner builds a business plan they must have a life plan.  Weavers planning philosophy for the Christian business owner is:

business plan otherwise your business will become your life”.

If Christ is your Master your business can not run your life. As a Christian business owner, your business is your ministry.  Your business is also the core of your testimony. If it destroys your family where is the testimony? We know this reality all too well because we witnessed the collateral damage of failed Christian businesses too many times.

In teaching business as ministry we believe that your business should be a vehicle to get you to God’s intended destination for your life. Many people are trying to travel to that God ordained life’s destination in the wrong vehicle. Is your current business the right vehicle to take you to the Lords goals for your life? If not, get out of your business. If you have no biblically-based life goals then tragedy, chaos and uncertainty will inevitably become the product of your business efforts.

If you are the owner of a Christian business ask yourself these questions:

1. Do I have a God ordained life plan?
2. Do I have a business plan?
3. Is my business plan serving my life plan?
